A three-day Youth Leadership Camp 2026 was successfully conducted at Rongyong Adventure Camp from April 10 to 12
, bringing together student leaders from various colleges across Pakyong, Gangtok, and Mangan districts.
The camp was organised by the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society with the main aim of strengthening the connection between the organisation and educational institutions
. The initiative focused on empowering youth leaders, especially those involved in Red Ribbon Club activities, to act as a bridge between authorities and the student community
.
Participants included young leaders from colleges where awareness and outreach programmes are already being implemented
. The organisers highlighted that despite ongoing efforts, a gap still exists in effectively reaching students and the wider public. The camp was designed to address this issue by training students as βmaster trainersβ
who can further spread awareness in their own communities.
During the sessions, special attention was given to the rising prevalence of HIV/AIDS among the 20β39 age group in Sikkim
. Experts from different fields conducted interactive sessions to provide basic and practical knowledge about HIV/AIDS, adolescent health, and related public health concerns
.
The programme included discussions on life skills, substance use, and adolescent well-being
. Resource persons from organisations like Plan India also contributed by conducting awareness sessions and interactive talks, particularly focusing on youth health and development
.
In addition to classroom sessions, participants engaged in creative and team-building activities such as workshops and outdoor experiences, including rafting and other adventure activities ![]()
. These activities aimed to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership qualities among the students
.
Organisers stated that the camp followed a holistic approach, combining health education with personal development
. The goal is for participants to return to their respective institutions and communities and actively spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and other important health issues
.
The Youth Leadership Camp 2026 concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing enthusiasm to take forward the message of awareness and responsibility
. The initiative is expected to play a key role in strengthening youth participation in public health awareness across the state
